Bummer/Happy Halloween!!

I can’t take time to write tonight. Still working like a fiend to get a job done. Definitely will write tomorrow night sometime.

(Not one rug rat has shown up yet, and I bought a LOT of candy… thinking that they’d be swarming in this subdivision. Oh well, guess there’s only one efficient way to get rid of it all! Nawhm, nawhm, nawhm…)

Starting back up on the blog tomorrow night, and boy, do I have a lot to talk about!! Some of it might be interesting, most of it not interesting to anyone but me… but hey, I gots to get it out!! 🙂

Three Quick Things

• My tennis team won the division title, so it will go on to city playoffs on Saturday!

• My mom is very sick with a bad case of bronchitis (near pneumonia). I’m worried about her. She sounds terrible!

• I am extremely busy and am going to wait until the weekend to go home so that I can finish work. I offered to go on home during the week to help Mama, but she doesn’t want me to risk being around her bad cough right before I start my new job. (Isn’t that just like a good mama?! 🙂

Takin’ a Blog Break

I just wanted to let y’all know that, for at least a week, I’m going to take a blogging break. I have plenty of things banging around in my head, but I’ve also got a looooonnnngggg to-do list and a short time frame to accomplish the items on it.

Unless something short and sweet comes up (like the dancing bird in the last post), I’m going to stay away from the blog crack. I’m sure I’ll have withdrawals and may need to join a support group, but I’m hoping that just READING blogs will be enough to keep me mellowed out. 🙂

I Don’t Think I Have Time for This

As part of my freelance work, I had to “unzip” a folder sent by a colleague. Look at the number of hours that my software indicated I would need for this process to be completed.

I figured out that is 84,308,617 days or 230,982 years.

I guess we should change the production schedule. 🙂

Sunday Question

Alright already!! 🙂 Here’s a belated Sunday question…

What teacher across your educational landscape was your favorite/sticks out in your mind/most influenced you, and why?

Mine was a 9th and 10th grade English and French teacher named Alice Sims. She did not suffer fools gladly, and she expected everyone’s best effort. She did not make learning “fun” per se, and she did not so much teach me “facts,” as much as she taught me how to “learn.” I don’t know if that makes sense. It was like she was the key that unlocked in my head that school is not about regurgitating facts back on tests, it’s about understanding why the facts are important to understanding history and literature and language and communication, etc.

I Told You! They’re Great!

Many of you have heard me bemoan the fact that my very favorite food—Milo’s hamburgers, fries, and sweet tea—are unavailable here in Atlanta. I used to eat there at least two times a week, usually three. There’s just something about their sauce, the cheese salt they use on the fries, and the sweetness of the tea that is unlike any other you’ll ever have! I even named one of my cats Milo as an homage. 🙂

What Would Your Gravestone Look Like?

While walking in a cemetery near the lake at the cabin, I came across this gravestone with an elaborate etching of a fishing scene. (Click photo for detail.) I’ve never seen anything like this except in the back of pickup truck windows… usually a truck with a confederate flag somewhere on the bumper. Obviously, someone was quite into fishing… so much so that either he or his family thought it represented him enough that it should mark his final resting place. (Ed. note: This is the back of the tombstone.)

So, question: What image would be on your tombstone?

Me? I’m thinking a clown reading a trivia book. 🙂
