The Things We Do for Love (as in Tennis)

with 4 comments

I have to say, playing tennis in below freezing temperatures with a wind chill of 18 was a new experience for me. I’m not playing in the winter mixed doubles league, but I did say I would serve as a backup player. Well, they needed one on Sunday, so I knew it was “play or forfeit.” I can’t tell you how badly I did NOT want to play in those conditions. Read the rest of this entry »

Wednesday Question

with 8 comments

So what’re some of your favorite comfort foods, and/or what are some “odd” food combinations you enjoy?

Mine:
Comfort food:
When I’m sick: tomato and rice soup with saltine crackers
When it’s cold outside: roastbeef chips and gravy on toast
When I’m sad: moose tracks ice cream

Odd combination:
dill pickles and peanut butter on saltine crackers

Getting Older and Other Stuff

with 6 comments

I know the only option to getting older is dying, and so in that regard, I’m grateful to be aging, BUT, I hate the way my body seems to be working against me!

Wednesday night, J. and I were getting ready to go bowling. I was putting my ball bag into the trunk, and she approached with her bag—a double one with handles and wheels for pulling it along. I knew it would be heavy, but I wasn’t prepared for how heavy, and I lifted it from an awkward position. As soon as I hoisted it high enough to get it into my trunk, I felt a pull in my back on my left side. It was uncomfortable, but not like a major pain. Read the rest of this entry »

Take a step forward:

If your father went to college before you started
If your father finished college before you started
If your mother went to college before you started
If your mother finished college before you start
If you have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor.
If your family was the same or higher class than your high school teachers. (I don’t get this one.) Read the rest of this entry »

Fantasy

with 5 comments

First of all, bowling update: Started off slow and then found my rhythm: 126, 169, 158…. not too bad for having been gone away for a while.

Second and more importantly, yesterday, when I got home from work, J.P. had fulfilled one of my fantasies… no, not the sexual kind, but the more pervasive kind. I walked in the door and was met with a welcoming hug, chili was cooking in the crock pot for tomorrow night, she was cutting stuff to put into the spaghetti sauce for our dinner, groceries were in the fridge and put away, a sweet card telling me how much she’d missed me was on the table, clothes were in the washer/dryer, and more FOLDED clothes were upstairs on the bed! I was aghast at how much she’d done in one afternoon (she was off work), and how much was for me, just because. When I asked what I could do to help, she responded “nothing,” and suggested that I take a nap until dinner. During my nap, she let the dogs in and fed and watered them as well. Holy smokes!! Does it get any better than this?!?!? 🙂

I know that kind of ooey-gooey, let-me-do-all-these-sweet-things-for-you will eventually taper off as we move along in our living together, but oh, how wonderful it is right now!! What a sweetheart!! 🙂

Bowling… Again.

with 6 comments

images.jpgTonight, I start bowling in a league with JP and her friends from church. I’m really looking forward to the fellowship and the bowling, but I’m NOT looking forward to the time frame. They start at 8:45 and go until 11:00!! Then, it takes at least 30 minutes to get back home. For a school night, that’s kinda late to be out and about. But, I’m counting on it being fun, so I think it will be worth it.
