Reflections

with 4 comments

Okay, the laptop has cooled off a bit, and I’ve been reading things that have me thinking. This post will be kind of stream of association and more of a journal entry than something I want my readers to know, so bear with me.

I think/believe/feel that I’m a pretty happy person. Of course, I have moments of disillusionment, sadness, cynicism, worry, and even pessimism, but by and large, I am happy. I’m very aware of the many blessings in my life… health, friends, family, pets, work, all of my basic necessities met as well as most of my wants. Read the rest of this entry »

I Want a Refund

My Roomba did not come with kittens. I want my money back… or send me six kittens. Either will do.

Already Another Week in Review

with 2 comments

Okay, so I’ve already fallen behind in my plan to write a post a week. Honestly most of the delay came from not feeling well for two solid weeks. I was pretty miserable, but feeling much better now. The delay now has come from either being at work and/or not being at my house much.

I’ve spent every night at Kimmy’s this week, except for last night. It keeps me off the internet more when that is the case because I don’t carry my laptop back and forth. Kimmy travels a lot during certain parts of the year, so tonight, I’m staying at her house to take care of her dogs and cat (and this time, I brought my laptop!) She won’t be coming back in until tomorrow night, and her friend who usually takes care of them is out of town. I guess it’s a girlfriend responsibility to watch after the kids when the mom is away. 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »

A Bedroom View of History Being Made

with 4 comments

I took 1/2 day off from work to take care of some errands, some work, and also to be able to watch the inauguration, from the comfort of my bed…unlike the brave/crazy people who actually went to DC to stand for hours in a crush of people in the bitter cold. Geez!

I am a patriotic person in general. I love what it means to be an American, despite the flaws of her government and her people, the mistakes that have been made, promises broken. But overall and across history, I believe there is more to be proud of than not. I often tear up when I hear the national anthem (even though I don’t like it very much), and I’m moved when I hear Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.” I’m sure I could be a happy person living somewhere else in the world, but I really have no desire to consider that as something I’d want to try (moving from Alabama to Georgia was traumatic enough). So I’m proud of my country and overall, always have been.

Today, my pride swells like never before. I, of course, have no idea what this day, this event, feels like to black people, to anyone who has felt like an outsider…those who felt that the promises and opportunities this country affords were not available to them. This pride comes not only for believing that EVERY American can now feel like they are part of the whole, but also that they have a reason to invest their best back into the country. The feeling that this moment will be the beginning of change for the direction of America, not so much as a government, but as a people…the way we view ourselves, our neighbors, those who look like us and who look different from us, those who live in our borders and those who don’t. The Week in Review

Health: I’ve been sick.

So if you don’t follow my Facebook status, you might not know that I’ve been pretty sick all week. It started last weekend with a bad sore throat and progressed until I was really miserable on Wednesday (missing a day of work), even though I’d gone to a doc-in-a-box on Monday and started taking antibiotics. Today (Sunday), I’m still very congested and coughing way too much. Hopefully, it will work itself out of my system soon. I’m tired of feeling poorly. 🙂

Work: I’m caught up at work work and behind in freelance

I can’t believe that, despite my firing on only half cylinders all week at work (and being out one day) and despite one of my designers being out a day and a half, we still managed to meet all our deadlines! I was so proud of all of us for hanging in regardless of how we felt and for taking up slack where necessary.

However, my freelance work has suffered because after dragging myself in all week, I’ve had very little left in the evenings. I’m sure it will all get done, but I dread the next two days because I just have to knuckle down and get things done!!

Sore Throats Suck!

with 4 comments

First of all, whoever thought it was a good idea to prescribe large capsules to someone with a badly swollen sore throat is rather cruel, in my opinion. Of course, I didn’t think to ask if they were going to be horse-sized anvils when he was writing the prescription. And he didn’t think to ask if I have an overly strong gag reflex that makes me sound like a cat throwing up when I try to swallow anything without chewing it.

So I emptied the contents of the capsule into a small bit of cranberry juice and chugged it down. I’ll be topping off this cocktail by chewing up some Tylenol PM later on. 🙂

Second, I gave this illness to Kimmy. So I feel badly and guilty about that too.

Third, I want to write more, because I have a juicy story about a former co-worker. Unfortunately, it will have to wait.

Kimmy fact: She’s a great dancer, even though if you ask her, she’ll say she doesn’t dance. 🙂

The Groove

with one comment

Okay, so as much as I enjoy my job, I was REALLY dreading going back to work yesterday. Horizon was very generous and gave us three days off for Christmas AND for New Year’s. So in a 15-day period, I only worked for four days. Even when I was there, I wasn’t terribly THERE, if you know what I mean.

Yesterday, I was surprisingly focused, considering the level of distraction I’d felt for the last month with my new relationship. At least for a while, I’ll refer to my girlfriend as Kimmy…and no, that is not even part of her real name. It’s an inside joke, but it will allow me to identify her without really identifying her.
