Getting Better Every Day

with 6 comments

I weighed in again today and had lost another 1.8 lbs. I’m sticking to my points very closely, but I figured the first week would reflect more water weight loss, so I’m not surprised in the difference between this week and last week.

I have only been playing tennis once a week, and while that’s good exercise and I really enjoy it, it’s not really an exercise “program” like I need to have to supplement the dieting aspect. So I decided to start the “Couch to 5K” program. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m in a Rut

with 4 comments

…albeit a good rut. However, being in a rut doesn’t make for good blogging fodder. ๐Ÿ™‚

Basically, I’ve been working, enjoying the backyard, deck, and porch and dieting. We have not been doing much of anything exciting. As a matter of fact, we commented on the fact that the blog family was not getting together over Memorial Day weekend.

Of course, there’s always the weather, gas prices, the election, and other assorted news bits to talk about, but since we can’t do anything about any of it, it’s sort of like tilting at windmills, isn’t it?

Any of you have anything you want to talk about? I’m listening. ๐Ÿ™‚

2.4

with 3 comments

That’s how many pounds I lost on my first week doing Weight Watchers. Not too bad, considering that I had no exercise other than one good tennis match.

I will try to blog more soon. Work is keeping me really busy, and I’ve been going to bed before 10:00 the last couple of nights. I’ve just been so tired!

Anyway, I will try to remember to post the weigh-in drops (and increases if I have any… and I’m sure I will :). It will keep me motivated to know I’m going to be posting it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Neighbors

with 4 comments

Last night, Jane and I hosted 10 of our adult neighbors along with five children under the age of four. We had a cookout with burgers, hotdogs, and brats (which we supplied), and others brought salads and dips and such. It was a beautiful evening, and the conversation was lively and fun.

We talked about how we needed to pitch in to buy a house two down from me. It’s been allowed to become run down, and they’re only asking $175,000 for it. If it had been kept up, even in this market, it could probably fetch $220,000. We were throwing around the idea of all of us buying it, flipping it, and making some money. Weight Watchers

with 7 comments

Well, I finally took the plunge and started attending WW. Jane’s been at it for a couple of weeks, and since she’s making the good food choices for herself, and since she’s such a good cook and willing to share with me, I thought it would be the perfect time to lose some weight.

We are both doing the Flex Plan, which does not require that you eat or not eat certain foods. It’s based on a point system where everything has points, even the exercise. So nothing is really “off limits” but everything has to come off of your total points for the day, so you don’t want to blow your whole day on, say, an ice cream sundae! (Well, you might WANT to, but you shouldn’t.) I like that the booklet that you get to record and check off your food feels like “gold stars.” Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve Been Tagged for an Interesting Meme

with 7 comments

I’ve been tagged for a meme by Titration, whose blog is listed in my sidebar. A meme consists of any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that gets transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.

Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

My nearest book is Beyond Religion by David Elkins, and here are the three sentences:

While each of us may have some creative ability, these gifted artists tower above the rest of us like mountains and enrich the entire world with their art. Great artists deserve societal support, and we need to provide arenas where the talent of promising artists can be nurtured and where mature artists can do their work. While art should never become exclusionary and elitist, any culture which fails to support its artists is only contributing to its own impoverishment.

The artists he was referencing were mentioned in the previous sentence: Shakespeare, Michaelangelo, Beethoven, Mozart, Rilke, etc.

I tag all of the Blog Family for this meme. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Streak is Over

with 7 comments

Well, it was bound to happen. For the last several days, I’ve been feeling like almost every single thing was going my way…at work, tennis, life in general.

Today, however, was different. It started at lunch. I came home to check progress on the deck. The foreman told me that what I’d asked for regarding latticework was not going to look right. I agreed with him, but the change added $375 to the bottom line. Still a good overall price, but you know $375 is $375, especially when I wasn’t expecting to have to spend it. (Good news mixed in, they finished the deck a day earlier. It’s really nice.) Read the rest of this entry »
