I’ve Been Tagged for an Interesting Meme

with 7 comments

I’ve been tagged for a meme by Titration, whose blog is listed in my sidebar. A meme consists of any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that gets transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.

Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

My nearest book is Beyond Religion by David Elkins, and here are the three sentences:

While each of us may have some creative ability, these gifted artists tower above the rest of us like mountains and enrich the entire world with their art. Great artists deserve societal support, and we need to provide arenas where the talent of promising artists can be nurtured and where mature artists can do their work. While art should never become exclusionary and elitist, any culture which fails to support its artists is only contributing to its own impoverishment.

The artists he was referencing were mentioned in the previous sentence: Shakespeare, Michaelangelo, Beethoven, Mozart, Rilke, etc.

I tag all of the Blog Family for this meme. 🙂

  1. From Julie Andrews’ Home: A Memoir of My Early Years

According to Auntie, my father was so in love with my mother he decided it shouldn’t make a difference. Two years later, Jimmy was born – his legitimate son. Several years after that, my mother had the affair with Pop and became pregnant with Donald.

Tag, the rest of you are “it”.

  2. Thanks for playing. Interesting reads coming up around the place. 🙂 I didn’t even know Julie Andrews had a memoir.

  3. Not sure if I’m doing this right but the nearest book is Fodor’s Carolinas & Georgia:
Asheville’s best-known gay club, Scandal’s, has a lively dance floor and drag shows on weekends. (I don’t make these things up you know.)
