roses_8-13-07.jpgI braved the heat, thorns, mosquitoes, and a high water bill to water the things that haven’t already died in the backyard. Surprisingly, the roses are doing better than anything else.

I’m always torn about gathering flowers. It seems selfish to cut their natural life short for my enjoyment, but since I’m not getting to enjoy them outside while they’re on the bush, I decided to gather up a few. I also saw a maypop bloom, which I haven’t seen in years! I didn’t even know I had a vine!

Anyway, I thought I’d share the little bouquet with you all. I know nothing about flower arranging, but it’s hard to mess up something so beautiful in its own right.

(Laura, I really wish I could give these to your grandmother. There are five different varieties here, and each one has its own wonderful aroma. They are really making the house smell delightful.)

  1. When I lived at the nature preserve, I planted a bunch of roses along the main fence line. I was always amazed at how well they did. I never cut any of them (it was a public park, after all), but they did become excellent subjects for my camera! I’ve been tempted several times to plant some here at my house, but have never gotten around to it.

  2. Oh, I would love to come pick some up this week to take to her. She would LOVE to smell “real” roses.

    Nice bouquet! 🙂
