Thursday Three-for-All (Favorite Movies)

with 2 comments

If anyone posts, feel free to tell me why you like your particular movies. Here are mine:

• Yentl
I’m not even a big Barbra Streisand fan, but I really liked the theme of this movie… the right to learn, whatever the cost. It addresses oppression, prejudice, gender roles, love…quite a range of issues. And it’s VERY well-directed.

• The Crucible
Extremely well-acted movie version of Arthur Miller’s play. It uses the Salem witch trials as the background, but it was written as a reflection on McCarthyism. It could really be applied to any situation where the pack mentality takes over and mass hysteria kicks in… up is down, down is up, and anything you say can and will be used against you.

• The Color Purple
Great acting, great directing, redemption, hope… what more can you ask for from a movie?
