This is just a short post about an odd place I find myself in. I suppose some of you might be at the same place.

Which is better? To watch the news and see stuff (that you can do absolutely nothing about most of the time) that breaks your heart, makes you sad and angry, and leaves you cynical and jaded? Or to not watch the news and just focus on the world around you, focusing on the people you actually meet and taking care of things you CAN do something about? Read the rest of this entry »

Just thought I’d share the pic of the kitten that I’m helping to support for PAWS Atlanta. He’s blind, but look at that sweet, mischievous face!! If we didn’t already have a house full of cats (five), I’d take him in a heartbeat. His name is Cheese… hence the post title.

In thinking over what I’d written in my previous post, I think it was wrong of me to say that control and power is what is driving a lot of the leadership of the SBC. Few things bother me as much as the politics of religion.

I was telling a friend just yesterday that I can spend WAY too much time reading other people’s blogs! Some of the ones I’m most fascinated by now are the ones posted by influential people within the SBC leadership. It’s almost like watching a wreck in slow motion. Well, it was bound to happen… I finally got to the point in Matthew (15:21-28) where I re-read the story of the Canaanite woman who came to Jesus to ask Him to save her daughter from demon possession*. She begs Jesus to help, and first, He ignores her. (Not very nice.) They continue to walk, and she continues to plead with Jesus for help. The disciples want to send her away. Jesus then says to her (and I’m paraphrasing), “Why should I help you? Should I take food from the children and give it to dogs?” Read the rest of this entry »

This is a short post to clarify some of the things I’ve been writing about. When I ponder questions like “Should we use insurance?” or “Should we pray a certain way?” or whatever, I’m not meaning to imply an imposition of that behavior on any one else. Putting “shoulds” and “shouldn’ts” on another person just puts us back under the law and diminishes the grace and freedom to be found in following Jesus. Read the rest of this entry »
